For many children September is a time for new beginnings and, in many cases, an opportunity to build new friendships.

Some children might be going to a new school and meeting a much wider range of peers, or even into a new class but with a different mix of children. This can be a really exciting time but making new friends can also bring new challenges, and children might have mixed feelings about old friends who they may no longer be as close with. Reading and sharing books about friendship has huge benefits for supporting children to understand the complex range of social and emotional skills they need to develop, including making new friends, coping with conflict and becoming part of a social group.
