Join us Become a reading helper volunteer Training and support No matter what your prior experience is, we can help you to be a great reading helper. As long as you can relate to children, are prepared to use some silly voices and really believe getting children to enjoy reading can make a difference we'll support you to put your time to the best possible use. Getting started Before you are introduced to a school you'll attend: Three small group live sessions via Zoom, 1.5-2hrs each One-to-one interview via Zoom, 20 minutes You'll also need to follow online instructions to complete a DBS check which involves a Digital ID check via the Yoti app. Although we are happy to help you if you are a bit tech-shy, you need to have access to a smartphone and a tablet or laptop to complete this stage. Sign up to volunteer Meeting your school We'll match you with a school that has children who really need your help, this may not be the closest one to you but we'll check you're ok to travel there. After your training is complete you'll get everything you need to meet school for the first time. The introductory visit lasts about 30-45 minutes and will give you chance to ask questions, meet the staff and find your way around the building. A School View Keeping learning Once you've met the children you'll likely have more things you want to know, and be seeking out ways to engage the children. I've been with a number of charities over the years and you have a lovely culture and give clear guidance based on real life."Annabel Sauders, Reading Helper, Somerset Manage Cookie Preferences
