It's a real joy to share a book with a young child, it's also a great way to develop vocabulary and emergent literacy skills, meaning that children are ready to learn to read when they start school. Our Early Years offer is developed to equip the people working or living with children with strategies, activities and ideas to make the most of books.

Books Together

In partnership with Coram Family and Childcare we have developed Books Together activity sessions. Delivered within the community as a series of three fun activity sessions, we equip parents with a range of ideas to make sharing books with their children fun.

We currently only deliver Books Together in selected London boroughs, however we are developing a transition programme for delivery in schools beginning for the 26/27 intake.

Story Starters

Our Story Starters training is rooted in academic research into using books to develop language and emergent literacy skills. It equips early years professionals and volunteers with a range of techniques, including dialogic reading, to get the most out of time with books.

If you have a group of people that we can deliver training to, get in touch to see how we can work together to bring Story Starters to your Early Years setting.

Supporting transition to reception

We are developing a new programme designed to be delivered by school-based staff in roles such as Family Support Workers. This is based on experience gained from delivering Books Together sessions.

We are seeking schools that would like to be part of our pilot for this which will see training delivered after Easter, ready for sessions to run for children and parents of your 26/27 intake towards the end of the summer term of the 25/26 academic year.

“Very good sessions. They helped my daughter to get introduced to new books and different
activities to do at home with books.”
