A literary-themed quiz night hosted simultaneously in venues across the country has collectively raised over £2,500 for Coram Beanstalk!

The quiz night took place on 5th December at several different locations including London, Norfolk and North Yorkshire. 

The fundraising initiative is created by Literary Laughs, an organisation which inspires book clubs to come together to fundraise for worthwhile causes. Charities and book clubs are encouraged to host a quiz night on the same date, to invite friends, family and colleagues and to pay an entry fee per person or team. The Literary Laughs team then send the strictly-embargoed literary quizzes (and answers) for the party to enjoy!

Kate Loynes organised a quiz night in Streatham, London, to raise money for Coram Beanstalk: “It’s the fourth time we have hosted a Literary Laughs quiz night and it is always hugely popular. Not only is it a great social event and good fun but it’s also a fantastic way to raise money for good causes such as Coram Beanstalk.” 

Guests at the Streatham quiz were delighted by a talk delivered by Stylist columnist, Guardian TV critic and author, Lucy Mangan. Lucy recalled anecdotes of her childhood reading and the impact motherhood has had on her being a bookworm. 

Many of the quizzes were hosted by McCarthy & Stone - the award-winning retirement community developer of which Coram Beanstalk is charity of year. As part of its fundraising efforts for Coram Beanstalk they encouraged residents at their sites across the country to get involved by planning a quiz night in aid of the charity which proved very popular.
