Coram Beanstalk reading helpers Simon and Tasnim were treated to the press preview of The Old Vic's 2024 production of 'A Christmas Carol' starring John Simm and Ebeneezer Scrooge.

As a previous beneficiary of The Old Vic's Christmas charity partnership, Coram Beanstalk was fortunate to have been offered tickets to attend the press preview of this year's production of 'A Christmas Carol'. Reading helpers Simon and Tasnim were able to take a guest each and both thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Tasnim told us she and her husband had a wonderful time being transported back to Victorian London and Simon was impressed by the dramatic changes in lighting from the orange lanterns hanging above the stage and the carols threaded throughout the performance.

In the ghost of the past Scrooge was at school and although he came third in the class, he was not valued by his father. He was not happy and not experiencing the pleasure of learning. The ghost of the present showed the difficulties and challenges of people from struggling families, especially Bob Cratchit’s family and the threatened death of Tiny Tim. The ghost of the future allows Tiny Tim to say to the changed and reformed Ebenezer: ‘You are invading with treasure.’ That is what we do at Coram Beanstalk - we go into schools and invade with the treasure of reading for pleasure.
