Often, children who feel that they don't belong in the world of reading, feel this way because they haven't had many positive experiences with books.  They may have been forced to read books which match their 'reading ability' but couldn't be further from their interests.  Peer pressure is real and it's much easier to claim 'reading is rubbish' and save face than be seen to be reading a 'baby' book.

All of these books look like they are 'proper' novels but are in fact so cleverly written they avoid overwhelming the reader with lots of text.  In a world where the number of pages in your book matters, these books make reading accessible to everyone.
