Beanstalk Brilliant Books

Where do you start when a child claims they 'don't like reading'? With brilliant books!

When selecting books we consider to be 'Beanstalk Brilliant', we always ask ourselves the same questions:

  • Is there something in this book that has the power to spark curiosity in children who might not have discovered yet what makes them curious?

  • Does this book create ‘book buzz’ and might it entice a child just by looking at the front cover?

  • Will this book encourage and help to build warmth and connection between the adult and child sharing it?

  • Does this book tell a story that children might find exciting and easy to engage with?

  • Could this book make you think, smile or even cry with laughter?

Here's a range of books which we think are particularly 'Beanstalk Brilliant' and which we think are likely to interest children who aren't yet big fans of reading.

Some of these titles feature in the book packs we send into schools for our volunteers to use with the children they are supporting.

Getting hold of these titles

You can see the books that Coram Beanstalk has specifically chosen for children who haven't yet fallen in love with books and reading below - but these books can be read and enjoyed by all children. If you click on each book cover you can read more about each title.

You should be able to find the books in your local library or you can buy most of the books through Bookshop.org - just check out the book lists on our page here and Coram Beanstalk will receive a 10% donation on all your purchases at no extra cost to you.
