Coram Beanstalk is launching six weeks of super summer challenges to keep children reading over the summer holiday.

Here at Coram Beanstalk we know it can sometimes be hard to keep children motivated to read during the long summer holiday so we've put together six super summer challenges centred around some of our favourite books. Each of the challenges is introduced by the author, illustrator or poet of the books and we'll be focussing on one a week, each week of the holiday.

Joshua Seigal, Naomi Jones, Andy Seed, Jamie Smart, Dapo Adeola and Tola Okogwu have set some great challenges that may just involve a little bit of reading, but also a whole lot of fun! The books and challenges will encourage children to perform poetry and practise reading aloud, get outside and get inspired by nature, think about issues which are important to them and find different ways of entertaining themselves inside and out of the house!

Helping children to read and engage with books over the summer has a number of huge benefits from keeping their brain active, spending time together and bonding, practising skills, increasing their knowledge and perhaps most importantly, being entertained.

If you continue to read with your child and encourage them to engage with books over the summer holiday, this will help them to build and maintain great reading habits and increase their reading for pleasure realising that reading isn’t just something to do when at school! It will also help them feel more prepared and confident for when they do go back to school in September after 6 long weeks away.

Keep the children entertained with these weekly challenges and do let us know how you get on!
