We all want our children to succeed. We want them to be able to learn well, live well, and fulfill their potential. We know how vital reading is and we do our best to get our children on the path to reading, to support them as they learn to read, and to continue to help them as they learn to become independent readers.

Creating Readers is a series of two fun, practical and inter-active online sessions designed to help all of us offer even more effective support to our children’s development as Readers.

You’ll meet like-minded people and leave the course feeling inspired, confident and ready to …. Create Readers!

The dates, times and content for the sessions are below.

Monday 17th May 10:00-12:30 - Session one
Creating Readers: Taking the pressure off
We look at how to handle the ‘baggage’ that gets in the way of us being able to relax and be at our most effective when we share books with our children.

Creating Readers: Book talk
We explore tried and tested methods to have a more meaningful and helpful conversation that connects you and your child together, and with what you are reading.

Creating Readers: Supporting children as they read
We share the best ways, based on our decades of experience of what really works, to help your children as they learn to read and as they are taught to become effective, independent readers: some of them may surprise you!

Monday 24th May 10:00-12:00 - Session two
Creating Readers: Thinking outside the book
We learn best when we’re enjoying ourselves, so we add into your armoury a range of activities that will feel like ‘just having fun’ but in reality really strengthen core reading skills and confidence.

Creating Readers: Reading aloud
We practice the techniques that make the experience even more engaging for both of you, and much more productive for your children, than a ‘straight read’.

You can purchase your ticket for access to both sessions at the bottom of this page. Once you have purchased your ticket we will be in touch with you a minimum of two weeks before your course is due to start to provide you with the Zoom link and passcodes for your sessions.

I think like many parents, you wonder if you are doing the right thing and getting as much out of reading time as possible, without putting too much stress on actually getting your child to decode the words. The workshop showed me different ways to bring the fun into reading through games with books, reading aloud and using the same book in lots of different ways. I’m sure like me, many parents can relate to having to read the same book every night because their children love it so much, and this workshop helped introduce me to new ways of working with the same books so that it's different every time. It also reinforced the idea that reading isn’t just for bedtimes, and that’s really helped make our reading time more impactful. Kate, Workshop attendee
