Last weekend saw the London Family Gala Screening of Michael Morpurgo's Kensuke's Kingdom and Coram Beanstalk was delighted to have been invited to attend!

One of our lucky Beanstalk families was treated to the premiere of film, not officially released until 2nd August, followed by a brilliant post-screening Q&A with directors Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry, screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce and actors Aaron MacGregor and Raffey Cassidy.

Dylan and Sam shared their thoughts on the film!

The Q&A with directors Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry, screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce and actors Aaron MacGregor and Raffey Cassidy.

The younger members of the audience had many questions for the panel, during which Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the new children's laureate and screenwriter of the film, told the audience that the two lead characters in the film were shown painting and creating artwork to help tell the story, as in parts the film is almost silent due to the language barriers between them.

Director, Neil Boyle also let the children into a secret about how they had managed to create the sound effects for the scene where Michael is struggling under water by covering their equipment with plastic and pouring water over actor Aaron MacGregor!

As many will know, Michael in the story is a fictional version of his creator, our ambassador and author, Sir Michael Morpurgo himself!

Dylan, Sam and their mum had an amazing afternoon watching this beautiful work of art of a film and it was wonderful for the boys to see one of their favourite books come to life. We are so grateful to Modern Films for including us in such a special occasion.
Any schools or parents looking for some resources to accompany the film can find them here.
KENSUKE’S KINGDOM will be in UK and Irish cinemas from August 2.
