Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall continues as Patron of Beanstalk 29 March 2018 Beanstalk is delighted to announce that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall will continue in her role as Patron of the charity. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is passionate about children’s literacy and first became involved with Beanstalk in 2011, when she visited Cavendish Primary School in Chiswick (West London) to observe a Beanstalk reading session. In January 2013 at the start of the Charity’s 40th Anniversary year, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall became Patron of Beanstalk. To mark the occasion she visited St Mary’s Primary School in Battersea, a flagship school of Beanstalk’s ‘Get London Reading’ campaign, where she met Beanstalk reading helpers and read an extract from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ to a group of children. Ginny Lunn, Chief Executive Officer at Beanstalk, said: “We are extremely honoured that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall will continue as Patron of Beanstalk. Her support and passion for literacy has helped us to increase the number of children we are able to reach across England, meaning we are having a much greater impact on their reading attainment and enjoyment. We look forward to working with Her Royal Highness to ensure that all children have the same opportunities to read, grow and thrive.” As part of a foreword written by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall for Beanstalk’s special anniversary collection of stories published in 2013, she wrote: “I believe passionately in encouraging a love of reading in young people of all ages. There is nothing quite like the thrill of opening a book and being transported into another world to meet new people and to discover their stories – it’s like making new friends.” Find out more about volunteering with Beanstalk or becoming a supporter of our work.
